Caps fans across the region were filled with joy when they took the Cup after winning game 6 in Las Vegas on June 7, 2018. One fan in particular was brought to tears as they clinched the title. Patrick Marek, a lifelong resident of Northern Virginia and Caps fan was particularly moved.
“I’ve never been happier and that’s says a lot, all things considered! I’ve followed the team since I was a kid so to see them finally win it, it was surreal.”
Marek is a Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer survivor and just reached his 15-year remission anniversary. He celebrated by taking his son Connor to game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Washington DC.
But his wife Kimberly also wanted to do something special for her husband given the momentous win. “He is a true Caps fan and I wanted to do something he wouldn’t forget,” noted Kimberly. “We do traditional family photos every year, and this year in honor of the historic win, I reached out to the Caps and our photographer to coordinate a Washington Capitals-themed family photo session.”
Both organizations did not disappoint, and the pictures were nothing short of spectacular. The Marek family photos were taken at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia, complete with an on-ice setup as well as a cameo by the team’s popular mascot SlapShot.
It was an experience of a lifetime to commemorate two wins - Beating cancer and the Caps finally taking the Cup.
The Marek family owns and operates Marek CPA & Associates, a local accounting firm based in Virginia. They partnered with 180 Reflections Photography to make their dream photoshoot come to life.
